Previous Gatherings
The Guthrie gatherings started in 1988 in Duncan, Vancouver Island, Canada at the instigation (and major organisers and financial contributors) of Anne, Mary, Ted and Barns.
These gatherings have occurred every few years since, with the same major input from these four wonderful people, and much to their delight, have always included families from both sides of the Pond.
Sadly, although they were looking forward to the next gathering, which was meant to be last year (2021) when Anne, Mary and Barns would have been present (Ted having passed away in 2020), Covid forced the postponement until now. Although this may be the last gathering for a while, unless family from North America decide to host one in the not too distant future! We know that Anne, Mary and Ted would have been delighted to know that we’ve managed to get together this weekend.

In loving memory of Anne Marquis (100); Mary Walker (98); Frank Guthrie(94) and Ted Guthrie (95).

1988
Duncan, Vancouver Island, Canada
The first gathering in Duncan Canada in 1988 was organised by our relatives over the pond.
Ted and Al went over to attend and meet relatives they either hadn't seen or met for many years. It was such a success it was decided to do another, this time in the UK.
1990
Edinburgh, Scotland
A group photo under the statue of Dr Thomas on Princes Street was arranged, and various events were organised, which culminated in afternoon tea at Graham and Anne Marquis’ home. .

1992
Victoria, Vancouver Island, Canada
This was held at the home of Ruth Schwantje and Ian Mcallister. Supper and a wonderful trip to the Butchart Gardens for a Saturday night firework production was organised by Barns.
1994
Cambridge, England
This event was held in this wonderful city, where a number of Guthries attended the famous University. Everyone gathered in Roger Guthrie’s garden on one day, and another day Peter and Sally Hearne offered their gardens at Stansted House for us to gather and have a picnic.

2000
Pitlochry, Scotland
The venue this time was at Bonskied, an old youth hostel in beautiful surroundings, where we were able to take over the whole building and have various games on the lawn which were much enjoyed by children and adults alike! Bats in the bedroom were an added extra to some participants! Events away from Bonskied were organised, including a trip into Pitlochry town, a whisky tasting trip to a local distillery, and a coach/cable car trip up the Cairngorms - sadly in the fog!
2022
Edinburgh, Princes St
A big thank you to Duncan Guthrie for writing about the 2022 Gathering Click here to see more.

2008
Edinburgh, Scotland
Back in Edinburgh for a lunch at the famous zoo to meet everyone before being let loose in the zoo to meet the animals!
In the evening we enjoyed a ceilidh, and the next day the custom photo shoot under the Statue.

2016
Edinburgh, Scotland
This time the venue was the New Club on Princes Street, which is the oldest private club in Scotland.
Here we met for afternoon tea and got to know new clan members and reminisce with old ones. Another ceilidh in the evening after supper, with various other event organised over the weekend.
